Estrella Galicia will hold the I Galician Draught Beer Pulling Championship as part of the Forum Gastronomico

On Monday 24 February, the first edition of the Estrella Galicia Galician Draught Beer Pulling Championship will be held. This contest, the first of its kind in Galicia, will be part of the Fórum Gastronómico Coruña ‘14 which will take place in Expocoruña from the 23 to 25 of February.

The objective of the championship is to promote the beer culture and recognise Galician bartenders’ work as a fundamental link in the distribution chain. The professional service offered by catering establishments is essential in order to offer the end consumer all the possibilities that the Estrella Galicia range has to offer.

 This is what the participants will demonstrate in this championship, which will take place throughout the morning at the Estrella Galicia stand in Expocoruña and which will have a maximum of 30 participants. The jury will be made up of beer pulling, catering and gastronomy experts, who will be in charge of evaluating the quality, efficacy and speed of service as well as the candidates’ knowledge of the characteristics of the Estrella Galicia range of products.

With this championship, Estrella Galicia is inaugurating its new exhibition and training programme, Beer Master Sessions, taking advantage of a food show which has become a reference in Spain, and which will be held for the first time in A Coruña. Beer Master Sessions covers all the initiatives promoted by Estrella Galicia with the aim of improving levels of professionalism and excellence in the art of beer serving, through contests, master classes, courses, food pairings and beer pulling exhibitions.

The jury will evaluate each participant’s performance, awarding points according to previously established parameters for style, technique and the way they pull a beer, the finish, the creaminess of the head and cleanliness, as well as presentation and explanation of the characteristics of the product and serving conditions.

After two eliminatory stages, the winner and runner-up will be chosen in the third and final stage, and they will receive €600 and €400 prizes, respectively. In addition, the next three will receive prizes and all finalists will receive will be given a diploma along with their weight in beer.

The registration deadline is 14 February. All applicants must complete the form available on the Estrella Galicia webpage, via this link, and an admissions committee will be in charge of choosing the participants. All those professionals who are based in any part of Galicia, reresenting their respective establishments or companies, will be able to participate.
