Five hundred rowers to compete in the Cabreiroa Iberian Cup
The competition starts today on the Castrelo de Miño reservoir, and is organised by the Galician Rowing Federation, with support from the Castelo de Miño Sailing Club, the Yacht Cub and the Portuguese Federation, as well as counting on the sponsorship of Cabreiroa mineral water, Estrella Galicia, Coca Cola, Powerade, Castrelo Coucil and the Ourense County Council.
The competition is open only to male and female athletes in senior categories, who will compete on today and tomorrow.
The male athletes will compete in categories from skiff to the legendary outrigger, to 8+. The female athletes will compete in single, double and quadruple scull. At midday there will be a meeting between the captains and the delegates. At 4pm the competition will begin with 1000m lanes. Tomorrow the 500metre sprint races will take place, starting at 9am. The closing Ceremony will be held in the Parque Nautico in Catrelo de Miño at around 1pm on Sunday 9th.
There are already numerous Spanish and Portuguese clubs registered with very strong teams such as Corbera-Aviles, as well as Vegadeo, Castropol and Remeros de Eo, all rowing for Asturias. There will be teams from practically the whole of Portugal, with emblematic teams such as Academica de Coimbra, Infante Don Henrique de Oporto, Caminhense o Viana, to name a few. Rowing for Galicia will be Náutico de Vigo, Samertolameu de Meira-Moaña, Marín, the Tuy clubs, El Perillo herculino, San Felipe de Ferro, among many others. San Pantaleón will row for Cantabria. Aproximately 500 athletes, from 40 clubs from all over the Iberian Peninsula, will compete and it is very probable that clubs form other parts of Spain, such as Andalucia or the Basque Country, will confirm their participation.
