The Eurostars Rey Don Jaime Hotel was the venue for the Campeonato Estrella Galicia de Tiraje de Cerveza de la (Estrella Galicia Beer Pulling Championship) in the region of Valencia. A total of 20 aspirants, from all the areas of the region, competed in different rounds to win the title of Best Beer Puller, supported by the public present at the event.

After competing in the different stages during which they had to demonstrate their skill at serving both draught and bottled beer, and answering different questions about the world of beer, Francisco Martí, from Burguer Beer, in Valencia was awarded the title of Best Beer Puller in the region of Valencia.

The runner-up was Davínia Martínez, from El Divino de Davínia Martínez in Orihuela (Alicante). Both will represent the Valencian region in the national Championship that will take place in May 2018 within the Salón de Gourmets in Madrid.

Once the contest was over, Francisco Martí stated that he was delighted to be the regional champion. The secret to winning, according to him, was “knowing how to combine the theory and practice.”

Davínia Martínez is satisfied to be the regional runner-up. She knows that the ability to concentrate when serving the draught beer allowed her to finish second.

Both champion and runner-up competed against three other aspirants: Oscar Montés from the O’Callaghan bar in Requena (Valencia), Kaloyan Slavchov from Bar Tutikedu in Gandía (Valencia), and Francisco José Mateo from Mesón El Rocío in Orihuela (Alicante).

The five finalists won their weight in beer and a cash prize. The winner was given €600, the runner-up €400, and the other three finalists €150. They also received a diploma certifying their participation and result.

The participants were judged by an expert jury, presided over by Xabier Cubillo, Hijos de Rivera Beer Culture expert, who had to work hard to evaluate the quality, efficiency and speed of the serve, as well as the aspirants’ knowledge about the beer world.

The other members of the jury in this edition were: Luis Miguel García, current Champion of the Valencian region; Eva Pizarro García, sommelier and trainer; and Ricard Mazón Maitre, 2002 Spanish cocktail Champion and sommelier.

The aim of the championship is to promote beer culture and acknowledge the work of barmen as a fundamental link in the distribution chain of our products. Professionalism when serving is crucial in order to offer final consumers all the possibilities that beer has to offer.
