MEGA, finalist for the European Museum of the Year Award
Our Mundo Estrella Galicia beer museum has been selected by the European
Museum Forum, a reference institution in the sector, as a finalist for the
European Museum of the Year Award.
The innovative character and quality of experience are the keys that underpin this award that has been recognising the work of exhibition projects throughout Europe for over 40 years and which on only four occasions has been awarded to a Spanish museum.
MEGA has started the year with good news. Our beer museum is among the finalists for the 2021 edition of the European
Museum of the Year Award – an award given by the European Museum Forum, the European reference
institution in this field, which is dedicated to promoting innovation and good
practice in the museum sector.
This award aims to recognise the innovative nature and quality of
experience offered by exhibition projects across the continent, and the
nomination is already an important endorsement of the work done by MEGA since its opening in June 2019 in A Coruña.
The European Museum Forum, an institution sponsored by the Council of
Europe, has been acknowledging the best museums in Europe that have opened
their doors in the last three years. This recognition has only been given to
Spanish projects four times, for example to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao which
won the award in 2000.
The end result will be revealed at the gala that will possibly be held
in spring, at which time candidates will defend their projects in front of the
jury, which will announce the name of the winning project of this special
edition after assessing criteria such as its ability to adapt to Covid,
guaranteeing the safety and quality of the experience, the philosophy and
management of the museum or its integration into the local community.
Since its opening a year and a half ago, and despite the strange times
we have gone through in 2020, MEGA has stood out for its 100% experiential
vocation that allows the visitor to participate in a unique brewing tour. Its
exhibition proposal has been a success because of his informative nature, with
the differential added value of being in the midst of the daily activity of a brewery.
