The world surfing season restarts with Estrella Galicia
Our Estrella Galicia brand will promote the return of international competition in Portuguese waters that start the season with the WSL contest of Estrella Galicia Pro Santa Cruz, Estrella Galicia Caparica Surf Fest and Ericeira.
We focus much of our efforts on leaving a mark of sustainability and environmental commitment in the surfing events at which we are present.
The world surfing championship returns to Portuguese waters after a year
marked by the pandemic and does so with Estrella Galicia. Our brand will
promote the return of the WSL through the Estrella Galicia Pro Santa Cruz by
Noah Surfhouse, Estrella Galicia Caparica Surf Fest and Ericeira, where fans
can once again enjoy the presence of the best on the board. Some top names such
as Vasco Ribeiro, Gony Zubizarreta, Justine Dupont, Teresa Bonvalot or Ramzi
Boukian are already confirmed.
Estrella Galicia’s involvement with the world of surfing comes from way
back and its presence has been evident in emblematic contests of the World
Qualifying Series circuit of the World Surf League such as the Abanca Pantín
Classic Galicia Pro, the Cabeiroá Pro Zarautz Basque Country or the Cabreiroá
Pro Las Américas.
The hallmark of its presence has always been linked to its commitment to
sustainability through different initiatives at the event that sought the
involvement and awareness of the attendees. This is the case of: Second Life, making
recycling points available during the competition; the Forest of Champions,
which leaves the planting of a tree in each edition as a symbolic mark of the
event; the Ecologic space, intended for environmental awareness raising, or
beach cleaning activities where
Santiago Miguélez, marketing director of Estrella Galicia, notes that
“surfing is a sport we are passionate about and that fits perfectly
with our values of hard work, environmental commitment and sustainability.
Collaborating with the return of the world circuit to Portugal and having this
platform of dissemination and awareness about the impact we leave on our
environment is great news for all of us who are part of Estrella Galicia”
Francisco Spinola, WSL General Manager for EMEA: “It is a huge
joy to see world surfing league events return to Portugal. After having gone
through difficult times, we managed to do again what we like the most alongside
Estrella Galicia. The events of Santa Cruz and Costa dan Caparica mark the
beginning of the competition season in the World Surf League in the EMEA region
(Europe, Africa and the Middle East) and the expectations of all those involved
after a year without competing is huge”
Luís Araújo, President of Tourism of Portugal, notes that “The
trust that WSL places in our country to carry out several tests of its circuit
here is a relevant contribution to the international recognition of Portugal as
a destination of excellence for surfing”
